We Engage in a Wide Variety of Local, Youth and International Service Projects

Our Local Service Projects

Preserving the Monarch Butterfly
Sunrise Rotary raises and hands out native milk weed plants at Petaluma’s Art & Garden Festival every mid July. Because the Monarch must have native milkweed to lay eggs on, the planting of native milkweed is considered by experts as the most effective activity that can be done to
benefit the Monarch.
Donate to Save the Monarch by selecting Monarch Butterfly Project from the “use this donation for” drop down box in this link…

The Great Petaluma Egg Hunt and Festival
The Sunrise Rotary has hosted a free community Egg Hunt at the Fairgrounds for many years, bringing children and their families from all over Petaluma together for a day of fun. Young participants search for colorful eggs, and a few lucky ones discover secret eggs that can be exchanged for age‑appropriate toys — even bicycles! Most of the toys and refreshments are generously donated by local businesses.

Mother’s Day Tea
The Sunrise Rotary partners with Petaluma People Services to put on an English Style Mother’s Day Tea Service for moms in Petaluma. We have many mothers in Petaluma whose families are not close by and that may otherwise spend Mother’s Day alone. The feedback we get from the ladies we serve is heartwarming, to say the least!

Rotary Garbage / Recycling Can Project
The Rotary Clubs of Petaluma, Petaluma Sunrise and Petaluma Valley partnered with the City of Petaluma to purchase and install garbage and recycle ‘bins” receptacles in designated Petaluma parks.

Rebuilding Together Security Cameras
A team of Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club volunteers installed 4 Pan / Tilt / Zoom cameras around the periphery of the Rebuilding Together Petaluma property. The technology was funded by the Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club.

Holiday Bell Ringing To Support the Salvation Army
Sunrise Rotary members volunteer to “ring the bell” at various Petaluma locations to help raise money for the Salvation Army at Christmastime.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Sunrise Rotary partnered with Raley’s in Petaluma on a food drive. Turkeys, other food items and cash donations were collected to support The Salvation Army in their mission to make sure every family in Petaluma has a great Thanksgiving meal.
Our Youth Service Projects

Supporting the Petaluma 20-30 Club Project
Each year across the nation, children start or return to school. Many of these children do so with no school supplies, old clothes, and a sense of not fitting in. Sunrise Rotary partners with Active 20-30’s national project – a back-to-school shopping event to help under served children start the school year off with the tools necessary for success.
Sunrise Rotary also wants to thank Boulevard Cafe & Grill for donating breakfast burritos for the children to start these kids day off right!

Lend A Hand To Educators
Sunrise Rotary partners with the Rotary Club of Petaluma Valley to fund grants to support local students and teachers in the Petaluma area. The teachers apply for individual grants that will enhance the educational experiences of their students, beyond what the school’s budget will provide.

Career Fair at San Antonio High School
Sunrise Rotary members volunteer to attend San Antonio High School’s Career Fair. Members share their stories of how and why they chose their careers to encourage and enlighten students about several career paths.

Fred Rogers Memorial Vocational Grant Program
This summer, Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club partnered with Petaluma City Schools to support local students participating in a work-based learning internship program. In collaboration with Rebuilding Together Petaluma (RTP), students gained hands-on construction experience while giving back to the community.
Thanks to the Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Fred Rodgers Vocational Grant Program and generous donations from Friedman’s, each student was equipped with tool kits to kick start their future careers.

RYLA
This camp is put on by Rotary District 5130. It is a phenomenal opportunity for high school students to develop and be recognized for their individuality and how they are able to contribute to society as leaders. Our Rotary Club proudly sponsors students from Petaluma High Schools to attend this camp.
Our International Service Projects

Rotary Youth Exchange
Rotary Youth Exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime for students who participate each year. Students travel to other countries to share their own culture and embrace a new one. This helps foster global understanding—and is a way for students to learn a great deal about themselves and their home country in the process.

DR Literacy Program
Helping children in the Dominican Republic to learn to love reading.

Haiti HANWASH Project
Sunrise Rotary District 5130 of California and The Rotary Club of Leogane, Haiti have partnered with the mayor’s
office of Leogane and HANWASH to bring safe, sustainable, and affordable water and sanitation to
the entire population of this vibrant area on the northeastern shore of Haiti’s Tiburon Peninsula.
It will take a great deal of effort and resources to achieve this goal, one Global Grant at a time.

Govuka Global Grant
Petaluma Sunrise Rotary and the Mbabane-Mbuluzi Rotary clubs sponsor this program to reduce Sexually Transmitted Infections (STD’s) and pregnancies among adolescents as well as the sexual exploitation of high school girls in that country.

Gardens for Health

resources to withstand and recover from
climate change-related shocks.

Kenya Trash Collection
Sunrise Rotary is directly involved in the “Chafu za Kwetu” project through financial support. Contributions will enable the procurement of Garbage collection materials, operational costs for waste disposal at designated county dumpsites, and stipends for local youths engaged in recycling and reusing activities for one month of project piloting.
