Preserving the Monarch Butterfly

Sunrise Rotary raises and hands out native milk weed plants at Petaluma’s Art & Garden Festival every mid July. Because the Monarch must have native milkweed to lay eggs on, the planting of native milkweed is considered by experts as the most effective activity that can be done to
benefit the Monarch.

The Great Petaluma Egg Hunt and Festival

The Sunrise Rotary has hosted a free community Egg Hunt at the Fairgrounds for many years, bringing children and their families from all over Petaluma together for a day of fun. Young participants search for colorful eggs, and a few lucky ones discover secret eggs that can be exchanged for age‑appropriate toys — even bicycles! Most of the toys and refreshments are generously donated by local businesses.

Mother’s Day Tea

The Sunrise Rotary partners with Petaluma People Services to put on an English Style Mother’s Day Tea Service for moms in Petaluma. We have many mothers in Petaluma whose families are not close by and that may otherwise spend Mother’s Day alone. The feedback we get from the ladies we serve is heartwarming, to say the least!

Supporting the Petaluma 20-30 Club Project

Each year across the nation, children start or return to school. Many of these children do so with no school supplies, old clothes, and a sense of not fitting in. Sunrise Rotary partners with Active 20-30’s national project – a back-to-school shopping event to help under served children start the school year off with the tools necessary for success.

Sunrise Rotary also wants to thank Boulevard Cafe & Grill for donating breakfast burritos for the children to start these kids day off right!

Rotary Youth Exchange

Rotary Youth Exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime for students who participate each year.  Students travel to other countries to share their own culture and embrace a new one.  This helps foster global understanding—and is a way for students to learn a great deal about themselves and their home country in the process.
